On August 22nd and 23rd, the Level Playing Field Institute (LPFI) will host Level the Coding Field, a two-day hackathon designed to expose underrepresented students of color to computer science and to promote production rather than just consumption of technology. Students from across Northern California will learn how to develop their own apps and will compete for prizes, including college scholarships.

Volunteers from more than a dozen of tech’s leading companies will serve as mentors as students create apps to address issues like education inequality, health disparities and more.

The event is hosted in conjunction with Twilio and sponsored by the Kapor Center for Social Impact, AT&T, UC Davis, Ford Motor Company, SAP and Airbnb.
